I'm a New Englander, so I kind of had the jump on Barstool Sports since the early-ish days so I was lucky enough to see the site and company grow to what it has become today. Since those early days I was patiently waiting for Barstool to announce that they are stepping into the gaming scene...especially esports. I can't remember the exact date when I heard Barstool Gametime mentioned on Barstool Radio (RIP), but I was pretty hyped about this. How could BARSTOOL fuck this up? You got a money pit to help fund this content, and a building full of hilarious people. A couple years later, here we are. I know it shouldn't bother me, but I'm a diehard gamer and a diehard Stoolie. I compare Barstool Gametime to a father that works really FUCKING hard to support his family, makes good money, drug free like how the Reagans would want it, but when he's home he doesn't give his kids as much attention as he should. The content they produce is "good", but it needs more attention, more love. It NEEDS that BARSTOOL touch. I'm not the that kind of guy to just throw out claims like this with no evidence, therefore, in order to get my point across I've selected three pieces of content basically at random and I am literally going to hand feed the guys at Gametime ways to fix this weird state we are in. Yeah I said WE.
Exhibit A.
This video really missed the mark when it came to "effort". I'm a huge fan of highlight videos I used to do them a lot back in the day, however, this video is STRICTLY clips. You can add more editing then just cutting clips and dragging them into a timeline. Adding some good editing to these clips can really help spice things up. Sometimes a good edit can take a "kinda funny" clip to a hilarious one. What I really feel like should of happened for this video was doing some "Stool Streams" style commentary so you are not getting dead air after the ball is snapped, then cut to the players after the play or during something crazy.
Exhibit B.
This video I have to try to be a little less harsh about because this CDL event had a ton of restrictions and uncertainties after the event previous to this one ended with a handful of players testing positive for Covid-19. Hell, Scump and Envoy almost missed out on this event until a negative Covid-19 test saved their asses a week and a half prior to Champs. Nonetheless, I felt like this video was more of a vlog on MRags at Champ and less about the event itself. Which is fine if that's what they were going for. Back in the day, when Dave or Big Cat would go to events they made it funny by interacting with fans, players, etc. MRags, go up to an OpTic fan and tell them that they are nothing with out Crimsix. Go up to a Ultra fan and tell them 4-0. I also got the vibe that MRags is a DIEHARD COD fan, but doesn't really know the esports side of things all too well. All we got from him on these matches was "wow that's nuts", "if they lose this they play team x", "I got FaZe winning", or "they looked amazing". Why was that match nuts? Who popped off? How did they play amazing? And are we just NOT going to talk about Cammy's GOD TIER ace in the GRAND FINALS against FaZe while Arcitys was head glitching his ass? I'm also going super nit picky mode here, but could they not use clips from the CDL live stream without getting a copyright strike? I say this because most of this video was literally just filming the main stage from the crowd section...which looked kind of shitty. I am sure with more time out on the field and with more reps (protein bro) MRags and crew will get better at this, but damn this was tough.
Exhibit C.
I have ZERO issue using other people's Tweets as long as credit is given, on the other hand if you are going to yank someone's Tweet YOU GOT TO COME UP with better CAPTIONS than "No one has more hops in Call of Duty than Presitah." That caption is like the first thing people would come up with. Trust me, I got a whole 145 followers I know what I'm doing. But, seriously I would had done something like "But can he Slide Cancel?" Or "Hopping over 0-4 deficits" how about "Check this asshole for an Exosuit". You really got to stare at that text box, crack your knuckles and come up with something decent. You're not going to hit a home run every time, but whoever is coming up with these tweets is grounding out a bit too often.

Today TimTheTatMan finally announced that he is signing with YouTube. I say "finally" because we should of known this was coming. His "main core" of friends/streamers he played with were streaming and creating content on that platform. I felt in time he would make the switch just to avoid breaching some sort of line in his contract by playing with YouTube streamers WHILE being signed by Twitch. Out of all the "moves to YouTube" this one hurts Twitch probably the most. How will Twitch respond you ask? Probably with more signings like they did when Ninja left for Mixer a while back. Is this the right mover for Tim? Of course it is. Personally, some of his best moments were with a lot of the creators that went on to sign with YouTube. Seeing Tim back with the Doc may actually bring a tear to my testosterone filled eyeballs.
Of course Twitter was in shambles. Small streamers showing off their giant brain power by saying that they may make the switch as well. DUMB. If you are PURELY a streamer, you are going to struggle on YouTube. Being found on YouTube without creating video content is almost impossible. Don't get me wrong, I am aware that YouTube has 100 times more people on their site at one time then Twitch, but it's just not there yet in regards to growing a stream from the ground up. Once YouTube finds a way to mimic the accessibility of Twitch it's over. Twitch will drop the soap, next to YouTube, and YouTube will dominate that ass. Until then, Twitch is still king and it's not even close.
