The North American T1 Showdown finals were yesterday and I happened to catch the finals between T1 and TSM. I don't really have a team that I root for quite yet, but I do like to focus on players that I recognize from my Counter Strike days. This meant I didn't really care for the outcome of the match, but I was heavily focused on what was being displayed to us. And let me just say the more I watched the more relaxed I got about the future of this game. Watching Wardell popping the fuck off with the operator while being both aggressive and passive with it was pretty exciting to see. Wardell doing what he did was HANDS DOWN the reason TSM stomped on T1.
The event was overall a success from...my perspective. 50,000 people watched a game that has zero history, is BRAND NEW, and was ONLINE. I truly feel Valorant will glow when it's put on a main stage and in a packed arena. The only gripes I have was with the commentary. This finals match had two of the best in the business doing commentary. That being Goldenboy and my dude Chris Puckett. Once again these guys are AAA talent, but the struggle for me was that these two are known for their play-by-play abilities and not their analytical breakdowns of plays especially for this specific game. If Valorant was Halo I would of had Goldenboy being the play-by play guy and Puckett (because of his knowledge of Halo) breaking down key moments in the match. It just felt to me like two hyped passionate guys giving use play by play and no real substance when it comes to breaking down a play OR breaking down what a team is setting up to do. As a man of honor and integrity I will admit I am probably just nit picking here. If these two successful esports juggernauts stick to it, study up, they can become the next Semmler and Andres of Valorant.

I have been on this downward spiral lately in regards to Rocket League. With there being no LAN's do to Covid-19, Same teams in the same region playing each other over and over again ONLINE, my interest in the game has been at an all time low. Until TODAY. I was enjoying my hour lunch break at work when I FINALLY decided to give Twitter a gander and let me say I was very happy with my choice of doing so because what my gorgeous brown eyes saw on my timeline was breath of fresh air. That fresh air being NRG picking up Squishy from Cloud9. I am very curious to know how this went about and how they decided to "bench" the 4-time world champion Turbopolsa. I'm saying "benched" quite loosely because we all god damn know you can't keep this GOAT fenced in and not playing. It's most likely Turbo will go somewhere else. There is a part of me that thinks Turbo will head back to an EU team. I DREAM of Turbo and Scrub Killa somehow teaming together. I think their play styles and attitude could mix pretty well. Not to mention the absolute classic content it could produce. Hell, I might actually start watching Scrub Killa streams again.
To bring this back to the NEW NRG roster some of you on social media are preaching that having two highly skilled mechanical players on a team does not historically work. I'm going to toss that concept right in the trash. I think THREE highly mechanical player could (in theory) work and the reason we haven't seen it work yet is because of one word....STUBBORNNESS. Many of these mechanical players flaws is that they want to touch the ball one or two times MORE than they really need to . When in all actuality they should of dished the ball to a teammate OR should of just allowed a teammate to take possession of the ball. Thus turning into a sloppy and unproductive solo play that more likely than not gives the opposing team a chance to clear or create a play in transition. I strongly believe Squishy can work with Garrett and Jstn. Why? Because I believe Squishy is at the point in his career where he knows what it takes to win because he has won, and knows what needs to be done during a match in order to do so. If that means being a little less aggressive while Jstn does his thing he will do that, but don't go thinking Squishy isn't going to capitalize when the opportunity is given to him. This team is going to be INCREDIBLE to watch. And that first NRG match versus the team that picks up Turbo is also going to be as equally incredible. This upcoming season of RLCS has gotten very spicy.....and I like spicy. This guy was lucky enough to play the beta and I had a fucking BLAST the whole time the beta was out. Now if you weren't able to get into the beta and the good news is that the games is OFFICIALLY LIVE! I am a big believer in this game. Valorant has tons of potential to absolutely blow up. Sure, the game is a tad on the boring side to watch, but ONLY when it's not top tier play. Which is bad news for the average streamer/content creator. Can an average Joe find success in Valorant content? Maybe. I think you'll have to be a bit creative to find success if you aren't a clicker of heads or on a pro team. In short this guy just can't wait to see where this game goes. The first in person professional event is going to be incredible and all the old CSGO faces that seem to be going in hard and getting signed to giant teams just shows the faith these players have for this game. Not going to brag, but I already am liking 100 Thieves and as of now they signed ONE player. HIKO Bitches. Let me reiterate. When the world gets back to "normal" Valorant LANS ARE GOING TO BE INSANE!
