I know this blog comes a bit late, but I didn't want to write this blog off my initial emotions because If I was to write this blog in that manner and off of I what I saw from day one this blog probably would not have contained anything...well...nice. Overall the event felt good, but like I hinted day one was a tough thing to watch. So what I decided to do was list the good, the bad, and the ugly from the event OVERALL and give a little detail off what I listed. THE GOOD- The story-lines we had going into this event was some of the best in some time. Personally, I haven't felt this good about an event since the 2008 dropping of Walshy from Final Boss back in the Halo days. The CDL completely CAPITALIZED on these and were not afraid of allowing the story to unfold live right in front of our fucking faces. If you did not catch the Huntsmen versus Empire match to start the season you would totally get what I am talking about. The drama between Scump and Crimsix was hyped up before the match, during the match, and after the match fantastically. For example, the post match interviews were great. The CDL allowed the pro's to just speak their mind...and UNCENSORED, which is a breathe of fresh air. THE BAD- The delays, delay is always going to be a thing at these kind of events and to be one hundred percent honest with you all the delays were more of a factor during day one. As brought up before the Huntsmen vs Empire match was scheduled for I believe a 5:30 est start time (I could be wrong) however the match did not start until almost a full hour later then scheduled. This wouldn't be so bad if I did not have to see the same commercials over, and over, and over again. What made it also pretty tough was the production team had the on-air talents talk SO MUCH to try and kill time that they began to talk in circles. If I had to hear "I am very excited for this match" one more time I thought I was going to drive myself fucking nuts. I think the best way to kill this sort of time would be showing some of the challenger matches. Not sure if that was something they had the tech to do at Minnesota, but I hope they are able to do this at future events. It would make delays WAY more tolerable. THE UGLY- The in-game free cam during respawn matches were completely un-fucking-believably bad. I don't even know how to put it in written words. The best way to describe it is "What the fuck is happening!!!". I get that the free cam is a very cool feature, but switching to it constantly on a hardpoint or a hill that is smoked out and has 6 people just charging, jumping, or soaring in and dying doesn't really paint the picture well for the viewer. It just makes us to confused as to what exactly is unfolding. This is certainly an easy fix. Simply don't use the free cam as often in respawn modes. In S&D when done right really can add to the tension of a match and it does. I will post the CDL match below this blog between Chicago and Dallas so you can see how crazy bad the camera work is during this match. I will say it did get a bit better in the following days, but for a 100 million dollar league you would think that they would had practiced this or something. BTW Shout out to the Maven yawn at 25:54

I am NOT your "typical" gamer, I don't actually care about 99 percent of the games that are out or care about "the next best game", unless it has a competitive multiplayer that I find interesting. However, a game that caught my eye was this little game on Steam called "Blasphemous" it has a really beautiful 16-bit graphic style, real intense deep story, and the combat is so fucking addicting even if in the grand scheme of things you are just hitting one button. I have found myself really sweating out each screen do to it's challenging platforming and enemy design. You'll see a new enemy and try to decipher the best way to attack. Do you just go fucking HAM and slash the fuck out of them OR do you wait for them to attack just so you can get a perfectly timed parry in order to open up their defenses....or slide past them if possible. I truly suggest this game and that's coming from someone who doesn't really stray from anything that's not multiplayer. Also last thing the speedrun to this game is also insane so check that out as well.
If you guys do NOT know this website is LITERALLY inspired by two things, my pure desire to make funny and interesting content in the world of Esports AND Barstool Sports. Barstool Sport is a New York based (Founded in New England aka hell yeah) sports website that hosts blogs, videos, podcast, etc with the mentality of "we will exercise our right to free speech and if your feelings are hurt...that sucks". Exactly how we run things here at Bad Manners Esports. I have been a "stoolie" since 2016 and when I heard that their Philly blogger and walking mascot for block heads Adam "Smitty" Smith was diving into the gaming realm I was instantly looking forward to what was going to be put out. With their budget and resources how the fuck can this fail? Well....it not failing, but it does pain me to see them miss on certain things like the GIANT that is Esports. I am PURELY speculating, but I believe that Smitty and the Gametime crew are SO HYPER focused on Fortnite that they are missing out on other games that fit with the Barstool personality, yet still entice the Esports/Competitive gaming crowd to dabble with Gametime content. "But Nick, Fortnite is huge! Why give Fortnite less Gametime screen time?" Well to answer this metaphorical question I will simply say the word "Events". Getting Gametime involved with games that have a big enough Esports scene that they can physically go to different cities and get content from these events multiple times a year would totally bring their brand to the next level. For example, with the Call of Duty League starting, Gametime could start mingling with the Call of Duty scene, interact with the community, and instead of playing in-office 2v2's you can run an online tournament using the Call of Duty League settings. You can even spectate these online matches and have Smitty commentate (or try to at least) these matches. This would get Gametime visible with the scene so when the crew goes to these CDL events Pros, Commentators, and Personalities would be more likely to get involved with the Gametime content. Smitty, give this a try. Look into my text based eyes and realize I am a man that has a pretty nice brain and this is going to work. ALSO please try to get involved with Rocket League that game is literally perfect for what you guys do. To the Gametime crew I wish you well...and sorry that your boss doesn't have the same way of thinking as I do. Seriously though, good luck with all of it and no, I don't want any credit for the additional success of Gametime after the reading of this blog....just kidding of course I do. BELOW are some entertaining videos to maybe get some inspiration from. If you have not been following the blogs I have taken two very lucky Rocket League players under my wing. These players are Pawn and Tyswoogles. If you did not hear the godlike news then you didn't know that my two students dominated in a tournament this past Sunday. The tournament was run by our delightful friend Combo, one of the three members of the ASAP Weekly podcast (give it a gander). The theme of this tournament was "Free Agent Frenzy" which basically meant if you registered for this tournament you wouldn't know who your team was until a short time before the actual tournament started. Luckily my two children ended up on the same team and their third player, Flux, was actually pretty damn good. However, during the tournament they lost 2-0 to Dave, Shorezy, and Nick (not of the tacular variety). If my memory serves me right they lost to them pretty early in the tourney and had to make a mega losers bracket run. Thanks to the my PROVEN way of playing Rocket League their galactic run brought them BACK to play Dave's team in the Grand Finals. The Grand finals were the definition of back and forth and the content was great. So great in fact that it actually felt scripted. I do not want to go too much into detail in regards to what happened during the grand finals so I will leave a link to the VOD and you guys can and should go check it out. (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/535138277 starts at 2:55:30). Awesome tournament, congrats to all that competed and I can not wait to see what the theme is for next months tournament.
While training packs are important to dabble with they can also completely fuck up your growth, especially when you are a newer player to the game. Many training packs out there are really hyper focused on ONE type of shot. As an example, when I was a newer player to the game I played a training pack that dealt with high and slow arching balls. I spent HOURS on this pack and eventually got good at hitting those kinds of shots. Issue is, in ranked, you may only get ONE of those kinds of shot opportunities and now I don't know how to deal with the other shot opportunities that I was given, like a simple ground shot. In a simpler way of saying it, I'd rather be OK at every kind of shooting style then be godlike at one kind of shooting style and trash at the others. Many of you may say well you chose the wrong training pack and that is partially true. If you are choosing a training pack make sure it is a COMPLETE MIX of shots. Fast, slow, high, low, etc. With that said I believe if you are a newer or even a veteran player you should be spending more of your time in free play. Free play really helps with ALL aspects of the game. Dribbling, Aerials, Shooting, Wall/Ground Pinches, Reads, Flicks, and even Fakes. In free play you can even mix up a lot of those things together. Dribble to a pop carry towards net, maybe a simple grounder towards the wall that you read and pinch the ball towards the front of the net. The scenarios you can run in free play are infinite and that's why it is so effective in getting better at this game. Free play prepares you for countless scenarios that you will see in a real game of Rocket League. I am not saying you should neglect training packs, but what I am saying is free play will make you a better all around Rocket League player much faster....well from my experience. I am not one of those asshole Rocket League personalities that are going to tell you how to spread your time on this game. Everyone learns this game differently. The way I saw real progress was when I stopped obsessing over practice and just hit ranked play. Nothing is going to honestly make you better at this game then...well....playing the god damn game.
This is my personal recipe, if I was to play a 3 hour session I would start with free play for about 10 or so minutes. Majority of the time in that session I would be playing ranked with free play and a dash of training packs sprinkled in between each ranked match. Nothing crazy, but it works for me. Keep in mind that there are some rare days where I don't feel like playing ranked and literally JUST PLAY FREE PLAY. I will be making a video on how to get the most out of free play, but until then I hope you all keep grinding and remember to not obsess too much on "practice". Also don't obsess on what you are seeing and hearing on Youtube, Twitch, etc in regards to this Free Play vs Training Pack debate and how long you should spend on each. Do what ever works for you. Remember, playing the actual game is the best way to get better.
If you watch the stream (Twitch.tv/Nicktacular in case you forgot) you will notice for the last couple of days I have been playing a lot of ranked three's with two delightful human beings Tyswoogles and Pawn. Though they are delightful and pretty good Rocket League players I have decided to take them under my wing to BRING THEM TO THE NEXT LEVEL. I do not want praise for this kind act. I do teach my prospects in a very tough way. I want them to know how it feels to hold L's BEFORE they are able to dish them out. It will pay in the long run. Trained by THE BEST!....am I right? Of course.
I have been watching these since 2012. And even though the speed running scene has been on a decline the last few years, this event is very hype. And not going to lie this event does attract some very interesting characters. If you like video games and like watching video games that used to devour your soul get beaten with ease this is the place to go. Check it out!
